SENATOR Bob Moreland is dead against embryonic stem cell research. He believes it is an unethical way to look for medical salvation to diseases of the spine and has based his political career on this stance.
But his life and work is questioned when his son is involved in a tragic car accident on his 18th birthday. Moreland痴 life falls apart, his beliefs are questioned and his wife suddenly seems to distance herself from him.
Little does he realise that these extreme reactions are due to his political beliefs, which have affected a large number of people.
One such disgruntled man rams his car into the senator痴. His son is driving on that fateful day that will change Bob Moreland痴 life.
Even as the various family members try to cope with the tragedy and look for options, Moreland refuses to give in. But when his son and wife decide to take a shot at the little known treatment on nothing but hope, he is forced to retract and assures them that though he will not go the whole hog , he will still support their decision. The book addresses the complex bio-ethical issues that surround stem cell research and forces readers to question their beliefs.

World Class Art Museum at Kolkata

World Class Art Museum at Kolkata
India is one of the major centers of art and culture. But it has been lacking a world-class art museum. To fill this space, the Kolkata Museum of Modern Art has been planned to open in 2012.
On July 14th, New York auction house, Sotheby痴 organized an auction of modern and contemporary Indian art to raise fund for the proposed museum at Kolkata. Over 84 art works was placed for auction. The art works placed was by 70 odd artists including Tyeb Mehta, Jehangir Sabavala, Somnath Hore, Jogen Chowdhury, Ram Kumar, FN Souza, Ganesh Pyne and the world renowned artist MF Husain. The art work by MF Husain was a surprise at the event.
The overall cost for the museum project has been estimated to be about 150 million dollars. The Sotheby auction has helped raise 1.5 million dollars. The auction has raised the profile of the KMoMA and has managed to get more donors to the museum.
Rakhi Sarkar of Kolkata痴 Centre of International Modern Art, and Managing Trustee of KMoMA says that the auction has created incredible response from galleries and governments abroad.
West Bengal Chief Minister Budhadeb Bhattacharjee is the chief patron of KMoMA. The Bengal government has provided 10 acre area in Rajarhat near Kolkata.
The museum is proposed to have three wings with 18th century contemporary art from India, the West and the Far East. The museum will also house other sections for research, conservation and curatorial practices.
All art lovers in India are waiting for this major World Class art Museum to see the Indian version of the Louvre of France, America痴 MOMA or the Tate of Britain.
